About the role

As a backend engineer at Adabtive, you'll help architect and deliver scalable web solutions that make life easier, safer, and more connected. You’ll work closely with a cross-functional team where your input shapes both the product and how we build it. One of our co-founders is shifting their focus toward more strategic work. That opens space for you to take on significant responsibility in the technical domain, shaping our architecture, influencing direction, and growing into a key role within the team. This role goes beyond just writing clean code (though we care deeply about that). It’s about building software that lasts.

  • Excellent written and spoken Dutch & English communication skills (you can explain complex ideas clearly and concisely).

  • Cloud expertise is required (preferably AWS).

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain web applications and services using Python.
  • Work with a modern stack including uv, Pydantic, and FastAPI.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and tested code using tools like Pytest, SonarQube, and Ruff.
  • Collaborate with frontend engineers to integrate APIs and co-define specifications using OpenAPI.
  • Design, set up, and maintain databases (SQL & NoSQL).
  • Experiment with new technologies and architectures (e.g., serverless, Kubernetes) as needed.
  • Embrace the DevOps culture: you build it, you run it.
  • Contribute to CI/CD and monitoring using tools like GitHub Actions, Docker, and Terraform.
  • Ensure best practices in security and performance.
